KEY FEATURES

AT THE SCENE

• Gunshots and wounds leave evidence behind: bullet casings, blood and gunpowder residue, from players and NPCs
• Raise the evidence camera with the forensic kit and it marks what it sees, and the marks stay long enough to walk over to them
• Bag each piece of evidence with its own tag, scene, time and the name of who collected it
• Blood dries and degrades over time. Dried samples need rehydrating, old ones can't be typed at all

THE FORENSIC DESK

• Case folders on the desk: open, rename, delete, or take a case with you as an item
• Read a carried case anywhere, or hand it to another department
• Evidence storage tray for each department
• Notes, filed reports and photographs inside every case
• Filed reports become items players can hand over and read

HANDS ON LAB WORK

Every test is a minigame done by hand at the bench, with a notebook guide beside it. The investigator reads the result and writes down the finding themselves. Nothing is filled in for them, so a careless investigator can get it wrong. Anything can be examined again.

• Precipitin test to tell human blood from animal blood
• Saline drops to rehydrate a dried stain
• ABO blood typing with serum wells and a glass rod
• Gunpowder residue test with diphenylamine on the swab
• Measure the cartridge with a caliper and loupe, 18 calibers in the reference card
• Clean the casing with solvent and a brush, turn it in 3D and note the firing pin, breech face, ejector and chamber marks
• Name the gun from a firearms register of 30 RedM firearms
• Comparison microscope: turn two casings until the scars line up to prove one gun fired both
• Test fire a gun into the recovery box for a reference casing

FINGERPRINTS

• Every character has ten fingerprints that never change
• Bare hands leave prints, gloves leave none
• Loading a round can leave the shooter's print on the casing
• Dust a casing with powder, lift the print with tape and compare it finger by finger against record cards
• Take a suspect's prints at the sheriff's office: ink the slab, then roll each finger onto the card. A smudged or faint roll stays on the card and makes it harder to match
• The suspect is asked first, unless cuffed, hogtied, dead or holding their hands up
• Export for other scripts to leave prints on locks, safes and doors

BLOOD FROM SUSPECTS

• Draw a suspect's blood with a vial, label it and type it at the desk to compare with the scene

SERIAL NUMBERS

• Criminals can pay a contact to file the serial off a gun, and the contact moves between locations
• Lawmen raise a filed serial at the desk: polish the steel, etch it with acid a drop at a time and read the numbers
• A correct reading names who owned the gun when it was filed
• Casings from a filed gun still match its test casings

FORENSIC HANDBOOK

• Reference tab with every firearm, its caliber, rifling and marks
• Can start empty and fill in as investigators find each gun
